Tibo će predstaviti i Les Soulèvements de la Terre, široku mrežu koja diljem Francuske povezuje lokalne borbe, ekološke pokrete i različite oblike direktne akcije protiv ekocidnih projekata i politika.

Perspectives of resistance – From Notre-Dame-des-Landes to Topusko
We’re gathering this Tuesday, November 10 at 8 PM, on MaMa’s couches to watch the documentary film L’Étincelle (The Spark), which follows the struggle of the ZAD (Zone à défendre) movement against the construction of an airport in northern France. We’ll be watching the film with our French friend Tibo, who lives and is actively involved in ZAD Notre-Dame-des-Landes, one of Europe’s best-known examples of long-term land occupation and self-organized resistance.
After the screening, Tibo will share firsthand insights into the history of this struggle, during which activists defended the occupied territory for years, organized collective life and eventually succeeded in getting the airport project cancelled in 2018. But this victory did not mark the end of ZAD; quite the opposite. On the defended territory, people continued experimenting with autonomous ways of living, collective land management and building alternatives to existing social and economic relations. It will be an opportunity to hear how resistance to an infrastructure project developed into an experiment in living differently and to reflect on the possibilities for similar struggles in the local context.
Tibo will also introduce Les Soulèvements de la Terre, a broad network connecting local struggles, environmental movements and different forms of direct action against ecocidal projects and policies across France.
And what’s happening in our region? We’ll then open a discussion about data centers and other projects threatening the environment and local communities, with a particular focus on PantheonAI, a planned project in the Topusko area. Together, we’ll exchange experiences and strategies of resistance and discuss how to connect local struggles and organize against ecocidal projects in the Balkans, France and beyond.
- The discussion will be held in English.

In the wooded area of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, near the French city of Nantes, a struggle against the construction of a new airport went on for decades. Local farmers were gradually joined by environmental activists, anarchists and other opponents of the project, and the occupied territory became ZAD, one of the largest autonomous spaces in Europe. After years of resistance, the French government finally abandoned the airport project in 2018. But the victory raised new questions: what happens to a movement once it achieves its original goal? As the authorities began carrying out evictions, ZAD residents sought to preserve the space where they had spent years developing collective ways of living, shared decision-making and a different relationship with the land.
