Boris Vrdoljak (Hrvatska) ─ Početci ballrooma i plesa vogue

[english below]

U okviru 22. Queer Zagreb sezone Udruga Domino donosi vam radionicu voguea!

Ples vogue (ili voguing) proizašao je iz ballroom scene afroameričke i latinoameričke LGBTIQ+ zajednice u Harlemu (NYC) u drugoj polovici 20. stoljeća. Nastao je oponašanjem manekenskih poza, borilačkih vještina, vojnih parada i staroegipatskih slika, a karakteriziraju ga stroge linije ruku, nogu i tijela. Ta prva forma voguea danas se naziva Old Way. U 90-im godinama prošlog stoljeća razvijaju se još dva stila: New Way, u kojem se naglasak stavlja na fleksibilnost i eleganciju izvođača, te Vogue Femme, koji su razvile transrodne žene nastojeći kroz plesne pokrete naglasiti ženstvenost.

Na radionici ćemo naučiti elemente plesa vogue Old Way.

Boris Vrdoljak (Croatia) ─ Beginnings of ballroom and vogue dancing, workshop

As part of the 22nd Queer Zagreb season, Udruga Domino is bringing you a vogue workshop!

In the workshop, we will learn the elements of the Old Way vogue dance. We will also learn about the history of ballroom, the categories in which one can compete at balls, the importance of building a safe and inclusive space, and ways of questioning gender expression in ballroom.

Vogue dancing (or voguing) emerged from the ballroom scene of the African-American and Hispanic LGBTIQ+ community in Harlem (NYC) in the second half of the 20th century. It was created by imitating model poses, martial arts, military parades and ancient Egyptian paintings, and is characterized by strict lines of arms, legs and body. That first form of vogue is today called the Old Way. In the 90s of the last century, two more styles were developed: New Way, in which the emphasis is placed on the flexibility and elegance of the performers, and Vogue Femme, which was developed by transgender women trying to emphasize femininity through dance movements.

The workshop is led by Boris Vrdoljak, better known on the vogue stage as Boris 007.
