We are pleased to invite you to the next encounter of our Transnational Solidarities series, where we come together to explore questions of freedom, justice, and solidarity across borders. Our upcoming session will take place on June 12th from 18:00–20:00 at club MaMa.
Too often, the stories of migrant women and their home countries are filtered through media narratives shaped by stereotypes, prejudice, fear, and distance. These sensationalist portrayals do not simply distort public perception—they can have tangible consequences for women’s lives, reinforcing social isolation while shaping the ways they are treated in their workplaces, communities, institutions, and everyday encounters. In Croatia, migrant women navigate a particularly complex reality at the intersection of gender and migration. They face challenges not only as women, but also as migrants whose experiences are shaped by different legal statuses, levels of security, access to rights, and degrees of social acceptance. Whether they are refugees, asylum seekers, workers, students, or family members, their voices are frequently spoken about rather than listened to.
This evening, we gather to flip that script. This Transnational Solidarities meeting is organised and guided by women who migrated and are living in Croatia. They will share their own stories and present their countries in their own words — in a positive, personal, and powerful light. Together, we will create space for dialogue, mutual learning, and a more nuanced understanding of the diverse experiences, cultures, and perspectives that migrant women bring with them. Because the women themselves are the best authors of their own lives.
The discussion was prepared and will be moderated by Amina Hussein and Lucija Mulalić, while the guest speakers are Maureen Njoki, co-founder and president of the association Africans in Croatia Connect and founder of Dobro Afrika; Vida Kličko, coordinator of the Filipinos in Croatia initiative and volunteer for Red Cross; and Prisca Dhombo, an entrepreneur currently furthering her education in Mental Health. Betlhem Pajač was in charge of the organisation of the cultural programme, that will entail Filipino, Indian and Arabic bites, as well as short performances of Indian dance by Somasree Mondal Ghosh.
This evening is part of the ongoing Transnational Solidarities series that are programmed and hosted by Emina Bužinkić and Lucija Mulalić, and feature as part of MaMa’s program line People on the Move, organized by Marija Krstanović (MaMa).

Transnacionalne solidarnosti: Ženske priče preko granica, izvan etiketa
Sa zadovoljstvom vas pozivamo na sljedeći susret Transnacionalnih solidarnosti, programa u kojem se okupljamo kako bismo promišljali pitanja slobode, pravde i solidarnosti preko granica. Naš sljedeći susret održat će se 12. lipnja od 18:00 do 20:00 sati u MaMi
Prečesto svjedočimo kako se priče žena migrantkinja i zemalja iz kojih dolaze prikazuju kroz medijske narative oblikovane stereotipima, predrasudama, strahom i distancom. Takvi senzacionalistički prikazi ne iskrivljuju samo percepciju javnosti, već mogu imati i vrlo stvarne posljedice za živote žena, produbljujući njihovu društvenu izolaciju te utječući na načine na koje se prema njima postupa na radnim mjestima, u zajednicama, institucijama i svakodnevnim društvenim interakcijama. U Hrvatskoj se žene migrantkinje suočavaju sa složenom stvarnošću koje proizlazi iz sjecišta roda i migracije. Izazovi s kojima se susreću ne proizlaze samo iz činjenice da su žene, već i iz njihovog iskustva migracije, koji je obilježeno različitim pravnim položajima, razinama sigurnosti, pristupom pravima i stupnjem društvene prihvaćenosti. Bilo da su one izbjeglice, tražiteljice azila, radnice, studentice ili članice obitelji, o njihovim se iskustvima često govori bez da ih se uistinu sluša.
Ove večeri želimo promijeniti tu perspektivu. Ovaj susret Transnacionalnih solidarnosti organizirale su i vode žene koje su migrirale i žive u Hrvatskoj. One će s nama podijeliti vlastite priče te predstaviti svoje zemlje vlastitim riječima – na pozitivan, osoban i snažan način. Zajedno ćemo stvoriti prostor za dijalog, međusobno učenje i dublje razumijevanje raznolikih iskustava, kultura i perspektiva koje one donose sa sobom, jer upravo su one same najbolje naratorice vlastitih života.
Raspravu su pripremile i moderirat će Amina Hussein i Lucija Mulalić, a gošće govornice su Maureen Njoki, suosnivačica i predsjednica udruge Africans in Croatia Connect te osnivačica obrta Dobro Afrika; Vida Kličko, koordinatorica inicijative Filipinos in Croatia i volonterka Crvenog križa; te Prisca Dhombo, poduzetnica koja trenutno nastavlja svoje obrazovanje u području mentalnog zdravlja. Za organizaciju kulturnog programa zadužena je Betlhem Pajač, a program će uključivati filipinske, indijske i arapske zalogaje, kao i kratku izvedbu indijskog plesa koje će izvesti Somasree Mondal Ghosh.
Ova večer dio je kontinuirane serije Transnacionalne solidarnosti, koji vode Emina Bužinkić i Lucija Mulalić, a dio su programskog pravca MaMe Ljudi u pokretu, koji uređuje Marija Krstanović (MaMa).
Događaj će se održati na engleskom jeziku uz solidarni prijevod na hrvatski.
